Tobacco retailers’ attitudes and knowledge of the Smokefree Environments Amendment Act 2011 and other tobacco control measures: A report for Regional Public Health

Background and aims

The New Zealand government has recently committed itself to the goal of making New Zealand smokefree by 2025.  In order to achieve this outcome, a range of tobacco control measures has been suggested. The Smoke-free Environments (Controls and enforcement) Amendment Act 2011 (SFEA Act) has been developed as a step towards this goal and includes changes that will influence the retail environment, including the removal of point of sale (PoS) tobacco displays from 23 July 2012.  This study aimed to:
